The story behind Minji

In the heart of Vietnam, where vibrant flavors dance through every street corner, my grandmother (Popo in cantonese) grew up surrounded by the rich tapestry of cantonese and vietnamese culture. Her days were filled with the hum of family life and the aroma of spices wafting through the air. From a young age, she watched her mother craft the perfect chili oil, a tradition that had been passed down through generations.
Each jar was more than a condiment; it began as a simple recipe with humble ingredients that could be found in every vietnamese and chinese kitchen; it was a story, a celebration of heritage, and a labor of love. Popo learned to balance the delicate heat of chili with the deep, savory notes of roasted garlic, creating a recipe that brought families together around the table. It was her way of preserving her roots while embracing the vibrant culinary landscape of Vietnam. For her, making chili oil was not just about flavor but about keeping history alive, one drop at a time.

Years later, life brought our family to Denmark, a world away from Popo’s kitchen. But the warmth of her traditions followed us. Inspired by her dedication and artistry, I decided to bring her recipe to a new home. With a pinch of nostalgia and a touch of modernity, I’ve reimagined her chili oil for today’s palate. Each jar is crafted with care, staying true to the essence of Popo’s original creation while adding a fresh twist that reflects my journey.
